Sharp IR connector
« on: May 14, 2008, 02:42:34 AM »
hi,

I've recently bought a sharp IR sensor but I was quite disappointed becouse it came with no cable... I looked for a proper connector in some electronic shop where I live but I couldn't find anything matching it...

any suggestion? do you know the exact name or that connector or can you suggest an online shop?

thank you in advance!

You can solder wires directly to the back like this:

The wires are, from left to right, power, ground, and the output signal.

Or you can buy a connector from acroname: http://www.acroname.com/robotics/parts/R47-JSTCON-2.html

Sorry to hijack this post, but heres a related question:
What kind of connectors do you guys usually use to to hook up to headers? (Ive been breadboarding up to this point)
There are a ton of different 100 thou female connectors out there, and some of the crimpers cost a mint! just wondering about preferences.
Thanks,
Buk

Hahaha...I just spent the past week with this same problem and feel like an idiot for not thiking of soldering the wires to the back.  In any case, if you'd prefer not to do that, here are the parts you need from digikey:

JST header:  455-1126-ND
Contacts: 455-2147-1-ND

Note that the contacts fit 22-26 awg wire.  And I hope you're good with a pair of pliers.

I always unsolder the original connector (you can pull the plastic part off then unsolder each pin individually) and add a normal .1" right angle header. Just bend the pins in a little so it fits.
