what is sn74ls107an used for?

I'm wondering what this IC is used for : J522A SN74LS107AN

I found it (2 actually) and I don't know where it came from. Maybe a computer (that's where I found them).

Datasheet (http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/sdls036/sdls036.pdf) says its called a "flip-flop"? 
And it only puts out 16 mA max! I'm new to electronics and robotics and the whole shebang, but that's a really small amount, yes?

So if anyone knows what this thing normally does and if there are any fun robotics projects it could be used for, I would greatly appreciate the knowledge.

As you found out, it's a flip-flop (bistable multivibrator).

Read up on logic circuits and don't be afraid to Google before asking.

LS is old and very current hungry compared to eg. HC and HCT, so keep them for experiments only - and 16mA is ample for logic.
