Technical info
Name: AATV, Autonomous all terrain vehicle.
Cost: 50€
Weight: 4711 grams + arduino and case.
Hours spent: 6.
Environment: Outdoors.
Purpose: Outdoors development platform.
What it does: Right now, nothing.
Programming language: C
CPU: Arduino
Sensors / Inputs: Nothing.
Actuators / Outputs: Two cordless drill motors.
Power: 2x 18v batteries, unknown capacity.

Got the drill motors today, they are exactly like this:

30€ for two motors, two gearboxes, two batteries, and two chargers! bargain! And i also get a casing for my coil gun ::)
Still have to finish one "tank" track, they are easy to make, but take time, and I need more screws and bolts.
More updates once the batteries charge and the motors are mounted ;D

The chassis looks very stable and with those drill motors, you have alot of power backing it.
Except you ought to add an idler wheel as the track looks too lose.

The chassis has to be changed, the motors are just one or two inches too long, I wanted it bigger in the first place, so it's cool, the tracks are loose because i have a system like this:

to keep it tensioned, but it wasn't fastened yet, still it seems to be enough tension, will have to test when the motors are fitted to it.
the motors are very powerful, ran one with 12v instead of the 18v they operate in and I cant stop the axle from moving, it's really strong, quite happy with them ;D

Motor mounts (http://i30.tinypic.com/2sbrj9e.jpg) are a bit dodgy, but they seem functional, will be used at least for now, what do you think?
Having my custom hubs machined, they are basically a think steel spacers the exact size of an ABEC3 bearing, and a 5mm diameter hole in the centre.

The motor mounts look stable enough, the metal zipties should work for you, I would add a angle stock or something to further secure the zipties by drilling holes in the angle stock to hold the fastener screws for the zipties.
On the aspect of power, the two 18V motors ought to give you two hours of run time on a single charge(With the CPU, control circuits included). But keep in mind that older drills may have used/come with Nickel-Cadium batteries, in which case you should check 'em for the memory effect. NiMH batteries sometimes come on more recent drills but even though they are NiMH, higher voltage NiMH sometimes have charging issues(NiMH version of the memory effect).
On your first picture I saw what seemed to be an antenna on the, control box? I know you are using an Arduino, but are you going to have RF debugging or information transfer?

the antenna is from the modem, still hadn't removed the modem internals, but i intend to have a wireless camera, and xbee if my current radio system isn't good, it's got a range of about 200 meters, two proportional channels :)
also xbees are bit pricey, if i get sponsoring :P
Good idea for the angle stock, going to visit this guy with scrap metal and look for useful bits ;D
I might have it working by tonight, depending on what metal bits i find!
yeah the motor mounts are two 8mm steel rods, it should hold :)
got half the transmission working!
