To be honest I bought a whole bunch many many years ago and have forgotten which one I bought. I think thats the same one, judging by the range.

I bougth my ir from Robotshop.com

Cool thing is that they are physically located 5mins from my workplace. Cool eh?

I got the GP2D120 IR range sensor (part # RB-sha-03). Please note that it doesn't come with a connecting cable (remember to buy separatly).

Since I,m building the 50$ robot right now, I'll be able to tell if it's the good sensor in a few days.

The GP2D12 (10-80 cm range ) or GP2D120 (4-30 cm range) versions of the SHARP IR Rangefinder are both perfectly suited for the $50 robot.

When I upgraded my $50 robot I used the GP2D12 version.

It really just comes down to the environment your robot will be in and/or how large your robot is.
