Omni directional wheels (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXdvLGTW2nQ#)
i didn't understand that how did the robot move in both X and Y direction in this video when no wheels moves in the direction of motion (moving along X).
-
those are Mecanum wheels.
The secret is that they have rollers faced at 45 degree angles to the main wheel.
-
Do the roller movement can be controlled?
Ain't they freely moving?
-
They are freely moving.
Having two of those wheels rotate in opposite directions cancels out any movement in the direction parallel to the wheels, but the rollers on each wheel spin, propelling the entire assembly in a direction perpendicular to the wheels.

Never seen these before. They look pretty nifty.
-
I've seen these before!
Actually this very robot!
Eyebot controller, built here in WA, I think...
Anyway...
Saw one of them at the SCITECH (local science place)
Even got to RC it.
I blew them away with my SoR knowledge...

Awesome!
