Title: Polarized Header Connectors with Normal Header Connector
Post by: Choco_liger on May 12, 2010, 02:29:27 AM
Hi all,

I bought a Sharp IR sensor from robotgear.com.au http://www.robotgear.com.au/Product.aspx/Details/273 (http://www.robotgear.com.au/Product.aspx/Details/273).

Unfortunately I didn't read it carefully and didn't get a wire connector.

So I'm probably going to make my own one and was just wondering,
if I made a wire connector with a polarized header connector on one side (http://www.futurlec.com.au/Connectors/POLHDCON3.jsp (http://www.futurlec.com.au/Connectors/POLHDCON3.jsp))
and a normal header connector on the other (http://www.futurlec.com.au/Connectors/HDCONNS3.jsp (http://www.futurlec.com.au/Connectors/HDCONNS3.jsp)), would anything be wrong with this?

This reason I am choosing one polarized and one normal was because I thought that the polarized would fit better  :P

Oh and here is the one that it suggested to use. http://www.robotgear.com.au/Product.aspx/Details/274 (http://www.robotgear.com.au/Product.aspx/Details/274)

Any help would be appreciated.  :)

Nope, you wont find any problems there unless it doesn't fit?

Thanks for replying  :)

Cool. I'll find the measurements and then order them right away! I hope the shipping doesn't take too long.

Hi,

Just to let you know, it wont fit. I have a Sharp IR sensor and the exact same polarized header and the polarized header is way too big.

I had to buy the connector from pololu.

Hmm... thanks for the warning.

I suppose I could make it smaller by hand?

Yeah I know bad idea.

It wont work either. The spacing between the pins for the polarized header you referred is 0.1 inch, but the pins of the JST connector required for the sharp ir sensor are 2mm apart.
If you don't want to buy a cable, just solder your cable on the PCB.

Hi,

When I don't have other means, I usually swap the connector with a 3 pin-row. That way regular Molex connectors fits.
