My $50 Robot Questions???
« on: May 29, 2007, 06:08:53 AM »
1.  I have to modify both servos to be continuous right? (you should say that somewhere else besides that one place in the parts list if i am right, it would help a little.)

2.  I have to have one of those AVR - Serial Dongle thingys right? (It was in the optional list but it looked like i needed it to upload the file to the microcontroller .

I had some more questions but can't remember them right now. Thanks in advance for all your help.

yes you need mod both servos.

I got that programer and it dont work for me so that's $15 wasted. you could try to make your own or getting the more expensive one.
I should have gotten the more expensive one for like $30 since I spend more money debugging and still have no way to program.

ok, i just fixed the tutorial :P

I recommend getting the more expensive one until I can figure out how to make the cheaper one work better (it does work, but causes a lot of problems).

wow thanks for changing the tutorial. that helped alot. so you recommend the $34.00 programmer from digikey.com right? Thanks again for your help and quick response. of all the forums ive been on these are probably the best. I love your support for beginners and no one constantly says "oh shut up you noob!" and stuff like that.

Yup, I use that one like every day. The cheaper one is for those without much $$ and is willing to figure out the problems we are all having with it for us :P

not one flame war, wow. you know you really have something good going on here. it is always nice to be surrounded by intellectuals that lift you and your ideas up rather than try to use their destructive criticism to prove their idea is better. again thank you for all your help and i will being staying here awhile, i really like this community!!!

I too am finding it to be good company here :)

BTW tiger, watch out for some problems I ran into when ordering parts and soldering and such

1) I accidentally ordered 1 36 position breakaway header instead of 2 s make sure that before you press the "check out" button on the websites that you have all the correct numbers in for quantity

2) for the programmer go with the more expensive one because as youve already heard a lot of ppl have been having problems with it. When I got mine (the expensive one) it came with a 3x2 header instead of a 5x2 header to plug into the board so you may have to add another 3x2 header for the programmer
heres a link the thread on how to do that

how mature of you. I thought you were all cool and stuff, but now I see you as a fat, bald no-life who lives in his mom's basement.
