The SoR team is having a bit of trouble deciding on a good name for our robot.
Anyone want to suggest a name? The winner, chosen by the team, will get a $50 check if DARPA accepts our proposal. Post your idea below (more than one is ok).
about the robot:
It's a mainly a quadruped, but with biped-like capabilities. It's about the size of a person, with similar capabilities, semi-autonomous, and will be used to go inside places too dangerous for a human.
The name shouldn't be too long. Catchy is even better.
current title ideas we have:
SoR Multi-functional Quadruped
Hybrid Biped/Quadruped Robot for Disaster Response Scenarios
Hybrid Biped/Quadruped Robot for Emergency Scenarios
[some-name] : Multifunctional Quadruped Robot for Disaster Response
Multifunctional Quadruped Robot for Emergency Response
Multifunctional Hybrid Biped/Quadruped Robot for Disaster Response Scenarios
Multifunctional Hybrid Biped/Quadruped Robot for Emergency Response

Dear Admin,
How about the "Definitely NOT A Murderous Killing Machine, Why Do You Ask?" -by SoR ;D
Failing that, I do like the sound of "Multifunctional Biped/Quadruped for Emergency Response" as a full name. Maybe an acronym could be created to make a long, specific name into one that is manageable in conversation (although making an acronym with a 'q' in it is going to be tough).
Perhaps something like "MQ-BREDR" (pronounced M. Q. bread-er) which would stand for "Multifunctional Quadruped-Biped Robot for Emergency Disaster Response". Just starting a brainstorm here. Maybe I'll be back with more ideas later.

MERQ : Multifunctional Emergency Response Quadruped
(or maybe RespondER instead of ResponsE)
-
I vote Q-BARE.
Pronounced Q-Bear
Because it's a quadruped that can stand on two legs and it's built like a tank so it can handle dangerous situations? (Ok I made that last part up)
It could stand for...
Quadruped-Biped for Autonomous Response to Emergencies
Which is, you know, very similar to the other two.
-
how about Q-BERT :):)
Quadruped-Biped Emergency Responder for disasTers.
(I know, I gotta come up with something better for the "T")
-
SAERS
Semi-Autonomous Emergency Response Scout
-
SamoR
Semi-Autonomous Multifunctional Operational Robot
the first and the two last words refers to SoR, too. :-"

Tomorrow is the final day to decide . . . any more last minute ideas?
-
can go around bragging it up and if it fails you already have a built-in excuse, it was over-hy-ped.
hy-ped = hydred biped

whYME is the winner :)
We'll know in about ~4 months if DARPA accepts our proposal.
MERQ : Multifunctional Emergency Response Quadruped

MERQ?
It's very similar to the verb, merk, which means to beat someone, kill someone, insulting someone, or injuring someone.

Oh well, I guess I need to catch up on my slang...

I had looked it up since the beginning to make sure merq didn't mean merk :P
