Title: Retractable Legs
Post by: AnnaCourtney on May 14, 2010, 03:18:29 PM
Hi I'm a beginner and I need to make a stair climbing robot for my schools senior project and I'm pretty new to this stuff. Anyway, the robot is supposed to use retractable legs with wheels on the bottom and I'm wondering what materials I NEED, it doesn't have to be the best materials money can buy, but ones that will work. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Anna

Hi,

[...] the robot is supposed to use retractable legs with wheels on the bottom and I'm wondering what materials I NEED
Your question is very "open". First, you need to read through some different designs to find out how you'd like it to be, then you can decide on materials from similar types.
Here's a lot of different climbers (http://www.google.dk/search?num=100&hl=en&safe=off&client=firefox-a&hs=kHM&rls=org.mozilla%3Ada%3Aofficial&q=stair+climbing+robot&aq=f&aqi=g-e3g7&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=)

When you reach a point where you need help, just ask.

The materials you use also depends on the tools you can use and your skill level with using the ex. Mill, lathe, saws etc

Thanks for the information! Since our project involves keeping a stable base for objects to be transferred up and down, we'd need a design for that. Our tool experience won't be a problem, we have a member who is experienced in construction.
