Title: i need to detect black surfaces
Post by: jhonilson on August 24, 2007, 01:05:17 PM
Hi. i need detect black walls. I did find that IR sensor not work in matte black surfaces then i am thinking to use ultrasonic sensor but here in Venezuela not selling these. (that bad)
I want to know if you know others method or know some ultrasonic sensor diagram circuit??
Please not recommend me touch sensor because the robot must be 30cm width maximum and the separation betwen walls will be 50 cm.
Thanks and congratulations for this wonderfull websites.
   IS THE BEST

Ultrasonic sensor are just sound. They cant detect color or anything of that nature. Only that something is there... unless of course it does not matter what color the wall is.

You could use a simple photo resistor to detect color. Certain colors will reflect a certain amount of light thus changing the photo-resistance of the photocell accordingly.

Ill let one of the other members who are more experienced in this area elaborate more on the subject.

ok then an ultra sonic sensor would work fine for you...

however, 50cm MIGHT be a little bit too close for the sensor to read accurately but I could be getting mixed up about that.
(For us non metric system users: 50 centimeters = 1.64041995 feet)

refer to this thread (http://www.societyofrobots.com/robotforum/index.php?topic=1105.0) for the time being...
and also this one (http://www.societyofrobots.com/robotforum/index.php?topic=570.0) might be of use to you as well

Hope this helped...

 Thanks
Ready i did had ready the first link but  not the second. I found a schematic there (Basic Stamp). I would try this circuit.
Thank you very much for you attention.
