its been at trossen for a while but i haven't seen it anywhere else much before.

I've been selling it to online retailers for quite a while, since last September actually. I was even the one who gave Matt Trossen the idea of holding robot contests on his site. :P
And RobotShop offered to *buy* SoR and hire me. I turned them down, of course. ;D

They'll claim everything theirs, move everything to their site, etc. Not sure if they would support open source . . . or ask me to write tutorials to sell their products :P

nooo, that would be terrible!
it wouldnt be the same being run by a company... unless it was a good one that loved open source and free.
