Autonomous Helicopter Project

I have to do a final year preferably robotic project.
I am willing to design a an Autonomous Helicopter.
I want to Use a RC helicopter and convert it to a robot.
Please help me to make it and which type of sensors i need to use and design procedure.

I want to make it at low cost and how much time does it takes.

i wouldn't cannibalise a ready made heli u need space to expand  BIG = BETTER
