Title: Urgent! Help needed!
Post by: Balboa on May 08, 2013, 01:10:39 PM
Hello guys! I recently joined this forum and just wanna say I am totally new to robotics. The situation now is that i am handed this project where i have to make use of kinect and IMU sensors to move a robot. The robot will basically move by human gestures. What I really need now is any new ideas/suggestions on what additional features I can have in this project so that i can make this assignment more original? Your suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I suggest focusing on making the project work great with the given sensors first. That's actually a very challenging problem! Once it works *great* with the given sensors, if you have time, money, and energy left over, feel free to add whatever fancy bells and whistles you want. (A robot arm that can scratch your back? An airsoft gun that can scare away squirrels? A large 16x16 LED display that animates a face? Who knows?)
Chances are, you won't actually have any time left over, and you should actually be spending all your time on making the original project *great*, so starting with that is good project management :-)

Actually, the thing is that it is compulsory for me to come up with some sort of a new idea/suggestion for this project. I don't really have a choice. You are definitely right about the fact that I might not have enough time to add new features but i guess i got to add at least a simple one. Dont have a choice here man! lol...Anyways thanks for the reply mate. Appreciate it! :)

Well, I suggested three possibilities. Personally, I'd go for the airsoft gun with image recognition of squirrel-like creatures ;-)

Make the tank shoot when you point your finger and pull the imaginary trigger in the air!
