Wheelchair Motor Brake Mechanism Weight
« on: October 16, 2008, 06:08:55 PM »
Inside a wheelchair motor is a braking mechanism to hold the axle in place . Some people remove it physically while others constantly provide power to the braking mechanism to unlock it ( thats what I did on Chives). Does anyone know approximately how much that braking mechanism weighs?

Heres a picture of the braking mechanism:

Just judging from the picture how much would you estimate it to weigh - 5 is my guess.

Is it 12v or 24v...? I have both right types right now, and could give you their weight.  In my case the 2 are different in circumference.  :)

Airman00, This is going to sound ridiculous... but I have not been able to find a scale that gets down into the ounces range, only pounds.  Its Tuesday and I thought I could provide this info Saturday(I do feel bad about not being able to have done this :-[ ).... so:

  You have the following options.

  1. Wait a little longer till I acquire a new scale trough purchase, or some other method.

  2. I could weight it comparatively by using house hold objects*, Tuna cans, water, etc.

  3. You could suggest an alternative... maybe weight in pounds is what you are looking for... or a different way to messure it.  :-\

Anyhow, let me know what you decide so I can give the info to you.

* And yes it may sound ridiculous, nai-i-say comical, but its effective.  :D
