help needed in making sticking legs
« on: July 18, 2008, 03:23:31 PM »
i'm new to electronic.

i have two rubber stick-on, i actually dont know what they are called. actually its a rubber, when push to a surface, it sticks there.. (actually, it removes all the air inside the round surface of the rubber and gets stick)

[see the image]

so i want to ask that how do i make the structure that the robot pushes the leg downward (toward the surface) so that the stick-on gets stick...?

i have an idea about how to stick it off... and that is, make a hole on the top of the rubber stick-on and put a cork which is removed (by a motor to let the air in) when we need to stick it off and then during sticking it, the cork is placed again so that air cannot be get inside the rubber.

thank you.

its called a suction cup

floor tile pullers for data centers use this type of thing for releasing them

basically you need weight to push them down to stick

and then you squeeze the handle and it pulls up these to pins from the middle of the suction cup to let air back in there to release the cup.

wont work that well....try something like this

or use small pumps together with the suction cups  - worked on mythbusters   ;)
Check out the Roboduino, Arduino-compatible board!

Are you trying to make a wall-bot?
From what I have read, suction cups are not the way to go. Complex, and heavy. Check this out...

yeah i want sumthing that sticks on the glass.. not a verticle glass, but on a horizontally lying glass...

what i'm making is an automatic glass table cleaner.. it will move forward itself and clean the table :P hehehehehehe :P for my home use, its very difficult to clean a glass table! :P

so actually, i want is to stick the legs on the table tightly, and then move and rotate the viper and then move forward a bit and then move&rotate the viper again and so on! :P
