autodesk inventor: collection of blueprints
« on: February 13, 2009, 08:14:39 PM »
Hello,
I'm trying to find already sketched robot parts, like servos, motors, etc. so that I wouldn't have to sketch them and couldn't find anything for autodesk inventor.

Can anyone tell me where I can find sketches for autodesk inventor? Or should I sketch them on my own? Just don't want to waste my time, if it's already available somewhere.

Thanks.

To my knowledge there is no AutoDesk Inventor part collection library. Very unfortunate.

If you need a particular part, just post here and I'll send it if I've made it. My parts aren't very pretty though, just dimensionally functional for my particular needs.

I'm considering investing in a CNC mill, which will require me to get a better CAD program. Is there any dramatic difference between Autodesk Inventor and Rhino? Do they both have pretty good CAM accompaniments?

AutoDesk doesn't come with CAM. I've never used Rhino so can't comment.

Rhino doesn't either, now that I think about it. There's a plugin you can purchase that lets you CAM your CAD files without leaving the CAD environment, which appeals to me.

I used an old version of EdgeCAM, I think v8.5 or something like that. If I made a change in AutoDesk and saved the file, EdgeCAM would automatically update the part realtime.

I had a lot of problems concerning EdgeCAM, and I hear the later versions are really bad. I'm just saying that professional level CAM software probably all have this same feature.

ever thought of using Google Sketchup?
There is a Sketchup Robotics Library

Check out the Roboduino, Arduino-compatible board!
