Title: Continuous Rotation Modification Difficulty List (very helpful!)
Post by: ServoCity on May 10, 2012, 08:40:18 AM
Ever wondered if a certain servo can be modified for continuous rotation? Furthermore, do you want to know the difficulty of actually modifying a particular servo. Our technical department helped us compile this helpful table!

http://www.servocity.com/html/rotation_modification_difficul.html

Not all servos are the same when it comes to modifying them for continuous rotation. Some micro servos have a “half pie” shaped final gear that allows the servo case to be very compact but also means that they cannot be modified for continuous rotation. Others have the final gear resting directly on top of the potentiometer which means the potentiometer can not be removed and yet others need to have the final gear drilled out.

Possible to Modify: This is either a Yes or No.
In some circumstances, we have modified a servo listed as a “No” for some specialized applications. If a servo listed as “No” is the only servo you can use, please contact us.

Difficulty: (1 is the easiest, 10 is the hardest)
1-3 rating: Some very slight modifications. Trimming of plastic with a knife or dremel.
4-6 rating: Trimming of plastic with a knife or dremel. Drilling out of final gear/spline.
7-9 rating: Pulling or tapping out of metal pin from metal spline gear. Possible soldering.
10 rating: Drilling out of spline gear. Trimming inner case stops. Trimming spline gear stops. Possible soldering.

You can purchase Hitec servos from us that are pre-modified in our own manufacturing facility on the individual Hitec servo pages. This modification voids all ServoCity and Hitec warranties.

As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail our knowledgeable tech team ([email protected]) or call 620-221-0123.

Enjoy!

Props on adding this neat bit of info to your website.  Just to pick a nit, "dremmel" only has one 'm.'
