Title: Idiot needs help with RC rescue boat

Swiftwater rescuers in the southeast have design the perfect rescue boat.  See it in action at

Now we need to make it function like

But with remote control

We need a waterproof transmitter with two throttles and a compatible receiver to coordiante the Dimensional Engineering 2x50 Sabertooth . . . or other speed controller. I have been told that some are better in marine environments.


The rescuers want to control the boat wireless while hanging over its bow or from shore while the boat is empty.

I am electronically stupid so please realize your audience when responding.

If anyone is in the Atlanta area, I could use some hands-on help!

well the idea that came to me is use a transmitter as used with RC airplanes. I recommend a Spektrum Radio Dx6i or better. what you can do is take out the springs (or preferably have them removed by the people you buy the transmitter from as then if they stuff it up you will just get a different transmitter, you don't have to worry)

this way you have 2 channels without the spring therefore you can use them both as throttle channels. the receiver will work fine in the marine environment as long as it is properly waterproofed/contained in a water tight container. and the receiver will work with the saber tooth 2x50.

Hi,

If a standard transmitter/receiver is used, expect some pranksters to interfere and use the boats as giant R/C models in a very short time (or someone stealing them).

I fail to see how someone hanging over the bow, probably to rescue someone/-thing, would be able to control a regular transmitter, as it usually takes two hands.
Perhaps a little lateral thinking should be applied, to conjure up a handsfree control (like jaw movement or similar).
Do rescuers wear helmets?
Freshwater or sea water?

To get just a tad on topic, build a robot to run it ;)
