Title: Robotic Evolution
Post by: nanobit on December 31, 2008, 07:47:36 PM
Hi, I often wondered about this topic and haven't yet come up with a conclusion.

Think as in evolution from steam to internal combustion engines in automobiles, or even as in evolution of humans from neanderthals. What things, technologies in robotics would let us claim that there has been a robotic evolution. Also, split the answer by what is possible today to within five years or in a few hundred to a thousand years, please be as realistic as possible. If you think there already was a robotics evolution please tell us why, and what would be the next step.  ???

oh and Happy New Year!!! ;D

there has already been a major advancement ion robotics look in the videos section for the video where the mouse brain is used to control the robot.... by 2050 i see the possibility for there to be full functional humanoids
this kind of a pointless post where as anybody with litle knowledge would know the advacements that have been made
but asking people where you think it will be in some time is a good part of it i look forward toi the many perspectives to come out of this

For an interesting look at evolving robots read Rudy Ruckers book :Software

ok ok I see. I have definitely thought about humanoids as been the next step. However, humanoids are not yet possible with our software and hardware. We could use in combination software and neurons, but there is still an issue of hardware. Making a humanoid now is making another Asimo. What we need is something that will simulate muscle as close as possible. I think that humanoids should be pursued as they can virtually be modified to react faster, think faster, move faster then any person. Especially if combined with a supercomputer cluster that the robot brain can excess at any given time, as well as all the information. But this arises issues, like advanced terrorism. Think, a highly advanced humanoid disguised as a child sent near a president of any country to be assassinated. Virtually any person could be mimicked to a certain extend. Of course advanced detection systems will be in place by that time, that might be able to detect most of the humanoids.
