Title: Robot Avatar Idea
Post by: Goatcheese on August 05, 2013, 09:14:50 AM
Hello all,

I'm trying to build a robot with tank treads, a camera, a microphone, a display screen, and a mechanical arm.  This should allow me to work from home.  It also has to be controllable via the internet.  The thing is I'm really not trying to program it myself or build it from scratch as it would take too much time to accumulate the knowhow.  Can you buy something similar from someplace?

The general answer is "yes, it can be bought."
The answer to the follow-up question is "likely at least $20,000."
Those kinds of robots are used for bomb disarming, remote equipment inspection, and other such industrial purposes, and are generally quite rugged.

For indoors remote participation, minus the manipulator arm, you can come down a factor of 10 or so in price. Check out doublerobotics.com
