« on: February 03, 2009, 09:53:42 AM »
i JUST OPENED THE SERVOS CAUSE I FIGURED THAT WAS TO DO BEFORE THE START OF THE ELECTRONICS BIT BUT IT ISNT CAUSE THERE IS NO WHERE TO PUT THE MICROCONTROLLER STRAIGHT INTO THE SERVO TO MAKE IT 0 DEGREES. ANYWAY ALL THE GEARS JUST FELL OFF AND I GOT HORRIBLE GREASE OR SOMTHING ON MY HANDS AND I DONNO WHERE THE GEARS GO BACK.

ok thanks, now the gears are back in position, is there any way to modify servos before the electronics part of the $50 project?

Thanks

Joe

Also why do you have to glue the pot head down instead of just removing the mechanical stop?

The stopper prevents the gears from mechanically rotating too far. The pot electronically tells the servo what position it is at. So even if you only remove the stopper, the servo will not rotate continuously because it will stop at the location you tell it to. Gluing the pot down tricks the servo, thinking it is stationary so that it will move.

Ok i got a couple of questions.

1) But the main gear fits onto the pot head, if i glue it down surley it wont move so the servos are pointless?

2)Here:   http://www.societyofrobots.com/step_by_step_robot_step2.shtml It says that you should modify the servos first, how do i connect the microcontroller to the servos without building the rest of the robot?

Thanks

Joe

dude don't worry about the micro controller just turn the pot head until you here the motor stop spinning and then glue it in place, then just remove the mechanical stop or use a box knife to saw it off it is glued in (don't chop your fingers off)

Just finish the circuit and then finish modifying the servo. It won't change anything  ;)

The gear fit's to a metal bearing round the pot... You chop the pot head off and then you glue the pot....
You chop the head do the gear doesn't come in contact with the pot....
For whom the interrupts toll...
