Barcode scanner

I would like to have the head of barcode scanner for a line follower robot. Wouldn't that be a lot neater than all the fuss with reflex detectors?

I wouldn't like to buy a whole barcode scanner, and I cant find the optical parts separate anywhere. 

Does anybody know a part number or something for this? Or some general information about how to interface with barcode scanner heads?
