Title: Wheeled robot physics
Post by: MadMax on August 04, 2008, 05:45:05 PM
Hi, it's been a while since I've been here. Lately I've been bugged by my new-found love for autonomous robots. My last project was a 6 legged robot, with every leg consisting out of 3 segments. Obviously, this project was much too difficult to begin with. So I decided to start with a driving robot. In search of some easy tutorials to explain me which servors/motors I should use on sloped/flat terrain. I was disappointed, there weren't any. I decided to make my hands dirty and calculate this stuff by myself. I would be ruining everybody's fun if I wouldn't share it with you guys.

Is there any interest in a tutorial explaining basic physics (levers, potential energy, kinetic energy, acceleration, velocity, vectors etc.) for robotic-enthusiasts without any knowledge of basic physics. However, my English isn't all that great. So I would greatly appreciate it if somebody could help me on proofreading it and/or correcting mistakes I'm making

Thanks in advance,
Max Henger

Hi Max!

Society of Robots has a great tool called the Robot Motor Factor Calculator. It tells you what kind of motor you need for the physics of your robot, but also tells you what size wheels you need, what the weight of your robot needs to be, inclines, and so on and so forth. Just go to "Robot Tutorials" then go to "Calculators" and find "Robot Motor Factor" Calculator. There will also be a link on the Robot Motor Factor Calculator for a tutorial on wheel's an physics.

Hope this helps.

Tutorials are always appreciated! I volunteer to proofread.

Oops...you want to write a tutorial.

Sorry, misunderstood the question...

Yea, you can PM me if you want me to proofread. But judging by your post your English is not bad.
