Antarctic summer means almost 24/7 sun for a month, I think.  That's good.  But the solar power received is much less than that received around the equator.  Equatorial sun, however, comes in largely vertical... Angle increases as you go north/south of the equator, so Antarctica is one of the best locations for side-mounted solar panels.
