My team wants to build a new mini sumo robot, and we're looking into making wheels similar to the one Seeker 2 uses (wheels are tubes that goes over the motor)
So I've looked at this motor:

stall torque is: 0.02 kg * m
speed is: 99 RPM
The calculator on this site is telling me it's fine for a mini sumo robot.
What do you guys think? Is this good for competition?

That motor is fairly slow. Seeker 2 uses 76:1 gearmotors from Faulhaber.
That motor with wheels the same size as Seeker 2 uses (1.5" diameter) would give you a speed of about 8 inches per second, which is really slow.
I would consider the 54:1 version - http://banebots.com/pc/MS-16XXX-050/MS-16054-050 for a decently fast mini sumo.

ps - I'm building a new mini sumo to replace Seeker 2, which will be called Seeker 2x. I don't know if you know, but Seeker 2 won the masters mini sumo division of the Canadian National Robot Games last Saturday...

Its ridiculously fast, so much so that I will only be able to run at a much lower than full speed most of the time...

If I recall, PWMing a motor only decreases speed and torque is constant at a constant voltage, right?

Hmmmmm so it occurred to me just now that I somehow messed up the youtube feature on the forum when I was trying to fix the site yesterday . . .
My web host corrupted a file and it took me forever to figure out how to fix it . . . which explains why the forum was down yesterday for an hour or two . . . :'(

My two http://banebots.com/pc/MS-16XXX-050/MS-16054-050 just arrived in the mailbox today, excellent stuff, I have 2.5mm of room to fit a wheel hub on the shaft and still have my robot under 10cm wide. This is plenty for my clever plan (which I will document :) ).
I'll see if I can make a CAD model of it
But, there is no room for capacitors (unless you are good with SMT), but i never use caps on motors before and everything was fine, would it be a problem here?

you mean caps on the motors right?
it will be fine - the caps just extend motor life and reduce electrical noise

is it something about the corrosion of the brushes inside from sparks? now that i have the gearbox, i can probably replace the motor if something happens.
what if the caps are on the motor driver and not the motor? is the electrical delay too long for them to have any effect?

BTW the banebot gear boxes are really reliable, i use the 38-1's in my combat robot Black Wedge and i have had no trouble at all. :)

Are you sure the caps wont fit?
You can just fold them up flush against the motor, or perhaps even on top.
