Title: programmer for $50 robot

i was ordering my parts online and came across this programmer and was wondering if it would be a good one to buy:

That's a great buy for the official programmer. You should jump on it.

Just as a guide, you have some other options too. If you have a serial port or parallel port then you can construct your own: Just search up PonyProg and look at the schematics. But really I would go with your link, much more reliable, I'm just stingey and built it myself. :D

JTAG Programmer is for AVR microcontrollers with JTAG port support, the Atmega8, Atmega168 or Atmega328 are not JTAG support, so it can't program using this programmer.

thanks macdad- i definitely will.....and billhowl i didnt know there was a difference theres another one up there from Atmel not sure if this is the right one:

It support AVRDude and not AVR Studio, I think it okey if you don't want to pay a bit more for AVRISP mkII In-System Programmer.
