I am interested in making a crab like robot. I've searched through the forums a few times now and found several decapod robots although one set of legs would be pincers so they don't necessarily need to be in the equation immediately. My question is, can anyone point me to tutorials/videos/schematics of jointed legs? I am comfortable with programming/wiring/circuitry for a robot but my motor/mechanic knowledge is lacking.

I think one of the simplest designs is the hexbug... they are coming out with a crab version soon that will be sold at RadioShacks... http://www.hexbug.com/ (http://www.hexbug.com/).

Thanks for the link. Those things are actually quite cool for only $10. I was hoping for more of a design of an individual insect/spider leg that has at least a shoulder and elbow joint type structure that could both be controlled through motors/actuators.

hmmm... you might find some design inspiration from Crabfu (http://www.crabfu.com/swashbot/ (http://www.crabfu.com/swashbot/))

If you are looking for a cool robot kit, check out www.1sorc.com (http://www.1sorc.com) for their crab robot kits.
You can check out how they look, etc. here : robots2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5aJAq69ijA&feature=channel_page#lq-lq2-hq)

Well a crab is just a hexapod with some forearms basically. Theres plenty of tutorials out there on how to build your own hexapod. Basically just build a hexapod and take the same leg technology and add some crab claws to the front of your bot.

they need claws now?
although that would be pretty neat ;D
