« on: May 07, 2008, 05:19:36 AM »
Hello guys
How are you?
I'm 20 years old..I'm Portuguese and I'm starting to build some robots. I love robots and everything about it, so I would like to start build.
Do you have some advices? I have already talked with some guys here in Portugal and they told me to start with BEAM Robots. For which type I start?
Wainting for answer...

Cheers

BEAM robotics don't requiring any programming, so computer science majors like myself feel kinda left out  :P

your best shot is to start studying a microcontroller

airman00 thanks for the website, it seems to be cool. At this moment I never built a robot so I'm trying to find how to start to do it. Do you know any website with good tutorials for me to start build robots?

I got into robotics about 1.5 years ago and have bought 2 microcontrollers. I'm mechanical engineering student and dont have huge understanding of programming. I'm more into building and designing the thing, and a bit of electronics.... I bought an I-box 3.0 and its so easy to program and learn programming with.

Check this out i'd highly recommend it. the kit comes with a bunch of sensors and I built a line following bot in a couple of hours fully programmed. I've recently bought 3A motor drivers and am using the  microcontroller 4 a high powered project and its sweet. It has 4 analog sensor inputs, 4 digital sensor inputs, 2 digital outputs, and 4 dc motor outputs. Lots of instructions and comes with 2 robots u can build, but i would use the microcontroller and build ur own.

Also I might add that all I've needed was this kit and this website and I've been able to figure everything out. The robot tutorial is excellent and I commend the moderators for such an awesome site. Its the only robot resource u'll need
