Title: Continuos Rotation HS-311 Servo w/ Sharp IR
Post by: Nate_the_Great on June 28, 2007, 03:37:47 PM
OK, two quick questions about adding IR rangefinder to the $50 robot:  ???

1) If I do not use the rangefinder reccommended from this link
(http://www.acroname.com/robotics/parts/R48-IR12.html)

and instead use another similar one will I have problems connecting it? the one I ordered:

http://thebotshop.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=GP2D120XJ00F&Category_Code=CK

2) I see from the picture of the modified robot that the photosensors were not removed when the rangefinder was put on, were they not removed for a reason/ can they be removed when the rangefinder is added?

1) the rangefinder should work but if you really want to kick it up a knotch use 12.50 rangefinder like this one http://www.acroname.com/robotics/parts/R144-GP2Y0A02YK.html (http://www.acroname.com/robotics/parts/R144-GP2Y0A02YK.html) it is better and cost the same price.

2)  ??? I really don not know but that is a really interesting question. Why dont you send a personal messege to the admin to see if he can answer that question to you. One's you get the answer send me a personal message with the answer. Pls put the topic title. ???

I ordered two HS-311 continuos rotation servos and they are very similar to the unmodified HS-311 I ordered for the Rangefinder, except their are dials with three wires sticking out of them (green, yellow, red). When I twist them they seem to make the servos reverse their rotation, with the rangefinder upgrade does it matter which position the dials are at to make the servos respond to the rangefinder? Because they don't seem to respond to the rangefinder unless they are in a certain position.

Dials? What do you mean?

Also, you need to use unmodified servos for the rangefinder upgrade . . .

No reason to remove them . . . its what's inside (the source code) that truely matters :P

The "dial" is a variable resistor used to center the servo.

You send a 1.5ms pulse every 20ms and turn the potentiometer until the servo ceases to move.

But anyways, this kind of servo is used for continuous rotation, y won't work with the range finder unless you add another kind of feedback (cuadrature).

Is this rangefinder OK for the $50 dollar robot? Does it affect the code?

Yeap it will work.

You may have to change a threshold variable, but thats all it will change in the code.

I know that the servo for the rangefinder is unmodified, I am reffering to the two continuous rotation servos driving the wheels. When I turn the pots or dials they seem to make the servos turn in different directions, The problem is when I turn them, sometimes they do not seem to respond to the rangefinder, they just continuously rotate, I'm wondering if there's a certain position I must leave them at so that the two drive servos respond to the rangefinder.

Thanx  ;D
