Modifying Servo SG5010 BB Standard
« on: December 11, 2007, 02:50:52 PM »
Hello! I want to buy 4 servos from a local shop(in my country..) called "Servo SG5010 BB Standard". You can see its specs here:
http://sierra.ro/Servo-SG5010-BB-Standard-p609p.html
Code: [Select]
Voltage: 6 V
Momentum(I belive): 6.5 kg-cm
Speed: 0.16 sec/60°
Does someone know how to modify this servo for continuous rotation, or is it the same process as for Admin's servo?
Btw, the price for one is 11.29$.

Cheers,
reSpawn.

its not metal geared so you can probably modify it the same way as a regular servo
Check out the Roboduino, Arduino-compatible board!

The SG5010 servo internal is like a Futaba servo, or GWS servo. It has a little piece of plastic that connects the pot axle to the spline gear. All you need to do is remove that piece, cut perfectly the stop on the spline gear and use ONE drop of Superglue to fix the pot in place when the motor stops spinning (using a 1.5ms signal, rotate the pot until the motor stops spinning).
MAKE SURE you don't spill glue on the ball bearing!

Here are some pictures of the gears and the piece you need to remove:
- in the first picture you see the black piece on top of the ball bearing,
- in the second picture you see it removed,
- in the third picture you see the stop allready cut:

Hi everyone!  I'm hoping to bring this thread back from the dead as I have just been through this tutorial and have run into issue getting the motor to change directions.

Im using Arduino to control it. As per instructions above, I rotated the potentiometer until the motor stopped moving and when fed a position of "0", it stops moving.  Any other number turns the motor counter clockwise.

Does anyone have any pointers on how I might be able to get this motor moving clockwise as well?

Thanks for any help in advance!

ps - (by the way I did spill super glue on my bearing and spend hours cleaning it...anyone attempting this process should make sure they remove the bearing before glueing the potentiometer in place).

well...i figured it was a long shot...the thread was well over 2 years old.

Anyhow, I sorted it out...apparently I needed to write "90" to the servo (to center it), and THEN adjust the internal pot until it stopped moving.  Did so and it's all good now!
