Skip to 0:39, and watch from there. Its called the Voith Schneider propeller, and looks to be perfect for a UUV . . .

Old technology, I remember seeing them on the discovery channel as a kid.

Seems to me like it's too many moving parts, more to break. But I also don't claim to know much about mech engineering at all.  ;D

Yea, youtube has plenty of videos on it . . . but this is the first time I've seen it on a robot. Mechanically, it's very complicated, and not nearly as efficient as a prop. That said, it offers 2 DoF while a prop offers only 1 DoF.
