A video of it breaking the record:

They then mounted a camera on it for a 'robot eye' view:

This robot used an array of infrared emitter/detectors to follow the line . . .

i don't get how they do the decision points. but thats amazing.

To do the decision points, you have your sensors detect more than one line.

Then you preprogram into the robot which way to go when it sees a split.

It basically counts each split detected.

Yeap, they tell you like 2 days before the competition.
