Pressure sensor ?
« on: November 09, 2008, 11:08:17 AM »
Hello guys... I have one question.

I am building robot walker (2 legs), and to increase his stability I decided to add 4 pressure sensor on his each foot, which will help me to know the disposition of weight on robot foots. It is very important for stability, and to minimize the chance of robot falling while walking.

I saw on internet only one simple pressure sensor, which is combination of two materials, and when you put some pressure on,the sensor generates output voltage in [mV]...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgE983kZz6Q&feature=related

Does anybody know something about this? Is there any tutorial for building this kind of sensors? Every help is welcome...

Sorry about this "English", I am from Serbia ;D ZIVELI VI MENI!!

On video it's a piezoelectric pressure sensor. You can buy something like that on sparkfun: http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=8712
Or there are companies, which sell "piezo plastic" or something like that...

What you are looking for is actually a 'force sensor' or 'load sensor'.

If you look for pressure sensor, you'd mostly just find air measurement sensors.

Thanks bro... I found a lot of literature about piezoelectric effect, and that might be solution. :)

With some force it generates output voltage, which amplifier convert into larger value. It is ideal for applications like this one. ;D
