LDPE Aluminum material
« on: April 30, 2010, 10:10:03 AM »
Hey,

I was looking for a material for robots on McMaster-Carr and found this material.
http://www.mcmaster.com/?orderview=new#aluminum/plastic-sheets/=6vxn0f

It is LDPE, similar to the stuff admin likes to use, laminated with aluminum.
I thought it was great because the weaknesses of LDPE (softness and small tensile strength),
and aluminum's weaknesses (no shock resistance, not very rigid in small thicknesses), are eliminated.

And it is all for just a bit more expensive than abs at $32 for a 4 sq. foot piece with a thickness of .118".

I just wanted to let other people know and get your opinion on any better materials.

I was also wondering if anyone had ever used this material?

Actually, I typically use HDPE when I'm on a budget. Delrin and acrylic are even better, but cost much more.

My ERP is made from acrylic (or delrin, can't remember).
