10 cm sharp ir
« on: February 11, 2010, 04:25:36 PM »
ok guys, a few questions.
I found this, which I think would be good for a wall-following bot. http://www.pololu.com/catalog/product/1134
I think 4 inches would be enough, or should I get the 10 inch one. also, do I need a speciaal cable to connect it?
would it be a good investment to start buying headers and a crimper? all help would be appreciated

That's a nice small sensor to use instead of bump switches. It has a on/off (digital) output that can be used for wall following.

s that the 4 to 10cm digital one? If so, it has a very useful led built onto the back that lights up when it detects something. Nice!

ugg I just realized.. its digital! *facepalm* Duh! digital-not good for detecting distances, which are needed for following a wall. whell, I guess I'll just have to spend the extra $5 and get this one http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name=425-2046-ND
which I believe is like this one

Haha yea I was about to face-palm you about that, too :P

Digital is cheaper, but analog gives you so many more capabilities for your robot. Analog is the way to go.

Make sure you get the 3-wire connector that goes with it, otherwise its a huge hassle to wire up. Some stores sell it without the connector to make it appear cheaper.
