Writing a fiberglass tut for robots.. AND

Is there anything that anyone wants in particular?  A specific point that confuses you?  Right now its an overview of the materials you need, explanation on the different kinds, how to make the various structures, pros/cons of different designs..

and of course the actual proccess.  I am going to post it up in a week or so.. I am getting my materials in tommorow so I can start this weekend I hope.

Im especially interested in methods to mold the fiberglass . . . such as if I wanted it to be a casing for my robot . . .

What i'm most interested in is how strong the fiberglass is, show me howmuch force it can take, show me if it's suitable to build custom robot parts . Like robotic arms etc.

I just started the foam mold today actually..

Attached below is a picture of the foam somewhat overflowing from the cardboard mold.  I cleaned alot of it from the edges..  its got its rough shape.  I still need to sand it and carve it to get the right shapes.  I will then be hopefully encasing the foam in fiberglass either tuesday or saturday.  (Thanksgiving and all).

Admin, you want to know how to encase already built robots in fiberglass shells, correct?

Also ya, a members tut account would be great.

On the subject of formable fiberglass, here is an easy to use material to form strong fiberglass objects.

I have used "Tiger Hair" ready mix before to fix rust holes in cars.  See http://www.detailandstripes.com/fbe-1189.html and http://web.mac.com/bryce84/iWeb/DeloreanMacMini/Fiberglass.html .   I have thought it would be great for robot projects.  One strategy for making a quick thin sheet of this to cover a hole for instance is to spread it on wax paper, then press the wax paper over the area you want to cover.
