Please help me design circuit for my Sumo bot
« on: April 24, 2009, 07:39:26 AM »
Hello guys. I'm creating a RF controlled 2.5kg sumo bot. I'm a mechanical engg. student and so don't have much knowledge in electronics.

Basically I need to create a 10Amp motor driver for driving 2 12V dc motors,10A each using relays.
Buttons on remote control:

      1
2           3
      4

1-Move Forward
2-Rotate Anticlockwise
3-Rotate Clockwise
4-Reverse

I'm planning to use these schematics for radio controlling

My Questions are:
Can anyone please create a schematic showing how to use relays to control motors from the o/p of the decoder?
Wil the circuit explode if more than one button is pressed?

Well I'm not an expert but you seem desperate and i think this will work, if I'm right one button makes you go forward one for backward and others should either brake left or right motor to turn. When no buttons are pushed it should be in brake mode. It also shouldn't explode if you mash all the buttons lol. I would have wired it up on my bread board to try it out but don't really have room to drag my electronics stuff out right now. Depending on the relays you might need something other than a normal npn transistor driveing the coils on the relays. If this is way off someone please correct it before he blows his house up lol. its eight resistors, 4 pnp transistors, 4 npn transistors, 4 diodes, and 4 single pole double through relays. Like I said I'm not an expert I'm still learning.

rippa911, your schematic won't work. Relays require tons of current to drive.

What you need is an H-bridge (or half bridge) using MOSFETS.
