International Submarine Races ISR 2007
« on: July 14, 2007, 11:17:45 AM »
I got to go to the Naval Surface Warfare Center in DC to check out the ISR competition. Its not robots, just people propelled mini-subs, but could still be neat and useful for those who like UUVs and UAVs.

I took a few videos . . .

machines will never(or at least in the near future) have fluid motions like live creatures
Problems making the $50 robot circuit board?

Ill have to argue with that. I have seen robotic snakes which move realistically and have fluid motions.

WOW! Sorry for bumping a ridiculously old thread, but this showed up as a suggested topic for a thread I was reading and I couldn't believe that you were there too! hah. I actually was the team captain for the University of Florida sub, "Swamp Thing". We have a much better sub this year that will be competing in June (although, I had nothing to do with this one).

I just thought it was amazing that the admin of this place was filming that competition! Small world!

There's a really good example of flexable actuators in the Introduction to Robotics lecture 3 video from Stanford on YouTube:

Starts about a minute in. Really interesting stuff.

If I'm in Washington, DC again this summer, I'll probably go again ;D
