robot modifications
« on: April 18, 2011, 09:12:54 PM »
I have been doing some modifications to make my robot better and I have found 1/4" plexiglass pretty user friendly. So far I have made a bracket to mount an IR sensor to a servo, a battery holder and an on off switch bracket. I am also in the process of making a second robot chassis out of plexiglass. i thought this might help someone looking for materials to use on their creation. Here are a few pics.

This is a pic of the battery holder and switch plate. I used my table saw for the cuts and a butane torch to heat the plastic so I could bend it to the shape i wanted. You have to go slow and steady when heating the plexiglass, you can deform it pretty easily. I am sure that creating a hotwire bender would be more efficient if I were to do a lot of intricate pieces.

If you get a mini-mill or mini-lathe you'll go nuts over Delrin.  It machines like butta.
