I was really interested in building a robot and after looking at some threads, I decided to buy a Boe Bot kit to start. I have the kit now but on the box it says: "WARNING: This product contains lead, a chemical known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. Wash hands after handling."
Maybe I'm being a little paranoid but i'm wondering if anyone knows exactly which parts contain lead? Perhaps the basic stamp? And is the lead content high enough to really cause reproductive harm? I'm a guy and I don't want weird sperm... What safety precautions should I take to avoid lead entering my body?
Thanks!

The basic stamp itself does not contain lead (It is RoHS compliant). Most likely the circuit board it is connected to contains leaded solder. To be safe, whenever you touch the solder, after you are done working with it just wash your hands and you will be fine.
Also, everything is known in the state of california to cause reproductive harm ;D

i would've thought it should be lead free if its aimed at younger people :o

Stop being a sissy! ;)
As Razor said "everything is known in the state of california to cause reproductive harm"
Honestly I wouldn't worry. Unless you start licking the board for 8hours a day for weeks you are fine.
People are so scared of everything nowadays....
Also, you have to remember that the main reason for the RoHS is environmental not the health of the consumer.
Yes, lead, mecury, etc are dangerous. But the quantity found in electronic stuff is not
armful for the consumer. However, it is a big issue during the manufacturing and the
recycling process.

this contradicts everything you said :P you mean wouldn't?
i know what you mean... i solder for an hour or two most days and don't wash my hands before lunch ;D
i actually have eaten solder before and im not dead yet... ;D

thanks for the responses guys! and i emailed Parallax today and they said that the only parts in the kit that contains lead are the photoresistors. (i guess not even the circuit board contains lead..?)

nope, i guess they used lead-free solder?

Being from California, if anything has even been in the vicinity of lead, it gets a warning, I think the politicians would put that same warning on breast milk if they could.
