controlling DC motor from servo output?
« on: August 24, 2007, 08:26:37 PM »
I've built a pretty cool robot that I'm having trouble finding the right mother board for  it.  I got a Parallax SumoBot board that controls the servos just fine, but when it comes to controlling the DC motor, I'm clueless.  I did some research on it and found out that the best way to control the DC motors using frequencies is this relay device.  I'm pretty new at all this robot stuff and could use some advice from someone who has done something similar.

Thankyou!     8) 8) 8)

ummm what do you mean?
Use a DC motor like it was a servo?

If so, you would need an H-Bridge motor driver... thats not really something I can elaborate on but im very very sure your better off just finding yourself some servos...

search around for H-Bridge schematics and such if you dont want to take my word for it ;)

good luck

hunt around on radio control sites for a "speed controller" or "ESC".
they use them for connecting drive motors in RC models to RC receivers.
you probably want one from a RC car if you intend to use it on a bot.
(aircraft ones generally have no reverse function.)

Not an endorsement, but this should get you started:

Try finding an old analog speed controller. You can connecting to the top of your servo.
Very very simple to use.
