Title: Best Camera for Computer Vision Project
Post by: chrisgmt on September 17, 2010, 09:05:53 AM
Dear Community,

for my latest computer vision project, I'm looking for a camera that fullfills the following requirements

- fits into a 23x23x60mm cuboid
- RGB color
- good light sensitivity - it is going to be used indoors and color sensitivity is critical
- min. 30fps
- USB 2.0 connection
- min 640x480 resolution
- budget <USD 1000

Which camera would you use?
I've already played around with webcams, notably the PS3Eye with cl-eye-sdk, but they just don't meet my requirements: The image is very grainy and/or not enough fps, and also some of these cams are too large.

so far, the only camera I've found that somehow would fit my requirements is this one: http://www.ids-imaging.com/frontend/products.php?interface=USB&family=XS&tp=0 (http://www.ids-imaging.com/frontend/products.php?interface=USB&family=XS&tp=0)
I'm just sensing that it is kind of overkill. I don't need autofocus and some other gimmics. There must be alternatives - non?

thx
chris
