Looking for cheap liquid pump
« on: July 31, 2010, 09:04:19 PM »
I'm looking for a small and cheap electric water/liquid pump. From my RC background the cheapest I could find is this:

Is there any other place I could find small and cheap pumps?

If you don't want to wait for a delivery go to a fish tank shop, they should have a line of cheap pumps.

although dirt cheep don't expect much out of these. they will die after a minute of continuous use.

Hi,

car windscreen washer pump?

If you buy  them "dirt cheap", perhaps you have your explanation  ;)

A windscreen washer pump was my first thought as well, as I have had two of them going for years (15..20 years actually), with much more than a minute at each run.
One bought from new (one of the better brands), the other ripped out of a Fiat going to the slaughter house.

Just don't feed them a higher voltage than designed for and if possible, go lower, as they are a bit noisy at rated voltage.

Søren

A rather fast and fairly heavy robot with quite large wheels needs what? A lot of power?

Hi,

I'm looking for a small and cheap electric water/liquid pump.
What liquid and what volume/time and what voltage?

I have (somewhere) a small 8V (IIRC) AC pump that pumps in a very odd way - a spring is set to vibrate at the AC frequency in the core of a kind of solenoid.
Not the strongest flow, but amazingly silent for the volume it can muster.
Don't know if they are available these days, I got it way back in a hazy past.
Regards,
Søren

Thanks for the suggestions! I just went ahead with the "top fueler" thing, I want to see how the DC pump works. I looked at the inside of a AC aquarium pump and its the same mechanism that Soeren described... too bad the pump was for air and not liquids.

to be fair i was using a wiper pump from a 1990's minivan to power a liquid cooling system for my computer and powering it from the psu.
