optical flow sensor module for mobile robot navigation
« on: March 19, 2011, 07:06:02 AM »
Hello.I am doing my project on robot navigation based on optical flow technique.I am new in robotics field so i want some help from you.I have to develop an "optical flow sensor module" for mobile robot navigation.Which sensor should i use and how should i go about it ?

I have to measure motion of both the axix. The XY data and use that to control the robot.I don't
have to build the robot. My job is to build that optical flow sensor module or unit or hardware. It will be mounted on a robot. Its a very simple prototype room robot.I thought of using adns 2610 sensor with hdns 2100 lens and use the xy data from the sensor output to control the robot.Or to use a cmucam with arduino board.I am new in this field so i want a lot of help for experts like you and guide me on my project.

You may get some ideas by looking at http://centeye.com too, but if you think the optical mouse sensor will suit your needs, then that is probably the simplest route. Here is an older discussion that may be helpful on mouse sensors:

I use "AVM Navigator" for autonomous robot navigation and this module needs only in motorized video camera and works pretty well  ;)
