Title: Newbie wants to know how to get started
Post by: pengyou on May 04, 2013, 06:43:43 PM
Newbie here with an interest in learning how to use robotics.  I plan to open a fish farm in 3-4 years and think that a couple of robotic devices would be of great benefit to me.  After reading some posts on this forum - you folks are way toooo smart! - I think I ultimately need to learn how to use is a robotic arm on wheels but can start learning how to use a robotic arm.  My knowledge of electronics is almost nill but I have been working with computer since the first pc came out - remember the TRS-80 and have done some programming in the earlier days as well.

I have 3 years to learn...can someone suggest a plan for me to learn?  Should I learn basic electronics first?  maybe more than basic electronics?  just jump into robotics?  Please feel free to suggest name brands of kits or specific book titles.

Robot builder's Bonanaza Fourth edition is a good book to get you started
but have you looked at societyofrobots tutorials?
also a great microcontroller you should start with is an arduino(look it up if you have no idea what this is)
