Hello,
A newbie question on clarity really.
Browsing URL http://www.societyofrobots.com/robot_tutorial.shtml; (http://www.societyofrobots.com/robot_tutorial.shtml;) referencing context of "Get two so you can isolate motor power from circuitry power. As a beginner you do not want your motors interfering with or even melting your sensitive circuitry."
Then on URL http://www.societyofrobots.com/axon2/axon2_setup2.shtml (http://www.societyofrobots.com/axon2/axon2_setup2.shtml) setup I see motors can be attached directly to L1 say.
I've got 2 6V NiMH batteries; so what would be the recommended option here:

1 - default battery configuration
2 - dual battery configuration and I realise that I'll have to remove the small solder trace between BAT and G5.
I'll be using 2 Tamiya 36T gear - 260 type motor which is a 4-speed high powered gearbox H-E for the wheels.
Hope this helps - apologies if already asked but I did looked through a few forum pages for answers.

What I need is to get a dual-motor driver - the video mentions Dimension Engineering and the part looks like a sabertooth 2X5; described as "Antweight dual 5A motor driver"; valued at $59.99
If anyone would confirm that would be appreciated, thanks.
For the moment I'm wingin' it regarding amps and they'll feed into 2 x

The specs don't mention amps usage but I may be leading myself astray.

Motor/Gearbox assy You linked to does mention that type 260, 1.5V motor is used. If it's any similar to FE-260-2670 (http://store.kysanelectronics.com/servlet/-strse-68231/FE-dsh-260-dsh-2670/Detail) motor, then it's stall current should be 0.75A.
You can always drop seller an email and ask for datasheet.

Just going back the dual-motor driver from Dimension Engineering and the part that looks like a sabertooth 2X5: the DIP switches are also guided via http://dimensionengineering.com/datasheets/Sabertoothdipwizard/start.htm (http://dimensionengineering.com/datasheets/Sabertoothdipwizard/start.htm)
I should mention "How to make a robot with AxonII MCU" in http://www.societyofrobots.com/axon2/axon2_videos.shtml (http://www.societyofrobots.com/axon2/axon2_videos.shtml) that the DIP switch looks to be set as follows:
1 on -- Enable mixed mode for differential drive steering
2 off -- Disable exponential (linear motor throttle)
3 on -- Non-lithium mode
4 off -- Digital flip mode
5 off -- Disable auto-calibrate
6 on -- Enable signal timeout (Helps prevent the robot driving away when there is a loss of signal)
I'll take a punt on this part anyway and order to get going here. Essentially, I just want to make sure that I'm not buying the wrong part.
