simple wired control of Bot
« on: September 01, 2010, 12:13:13 PM »
hi mates...glad i found this forum !

I am quite new to robotics...I am going to enroll into a new competition ...

i have to build the bot from scratch !

i have to control a robot by wire...forward ,backward and turn too !
i have to guide the bot through series of obstacles and curved paths !

"i need to build a wired control as mentioned above and this bot should carry nearly 6 Kg weight :( "

i have no ideas about torque and speed calculation of the motors available...

"how to build a basic wire controlled circuitry ( simple please) ...can i get the circuit for these things mates...i am new to micoprocessors and controllers too...i will post pics on my progress made by this post ...."

kindly help guys !

this is my first problem statement...and many more are there...

Thanks

Have you read the many good tutorials and articles here on SoR? See "Robot Tutorials" above.
This is a good place to start. There is even a motor calculator to help you pick a motor gear combination that will work.

The task you are asking about shouldn't be to difficult. What size requirements do you have?  For simple wired control you can just use switches to control robot movement. For differential drive two DPDT momentary contact switches should work. Is there a website for the competition you are looking at?

Good luck

hey glad to see someone interested! i'd personally grab yourself a l293D chip to control your robot. it's called an H bridge and if you havn't looked those up already you will find that they are probably the standard for controlling motors, with or without digital circuits. essentially an H bridge allows you to switch polarity of the motors in order to move them back and forth simply by putting +5v to an input pin. here's a little diagram to help describe it

First step: Build androids with AI
Next step: Give them vaginas
