Title: Android

Does anybody know of any sites that explain how to make an android body or just parts of one?

which part do you want to make? its really just like any other robot, just more motors . . .

In that case, the best way to start is to use CAD to work out a design. Just look at pics of many other designs and see how things are done, then try and imitate it in your CAD design. This is how I would go about it, and I'm a professional mechanical engineer :P

And to answer your next question, many people here would recommend Google Sketchup. I use AutoCAD 3D.

not to be mean, but I doubt you'll get an android working...

I was going to build one myself up until the other day when this little bugger popped into my head.

you can make the thing look like a person, but what allows us to move? Balance. how do you balance an object of human proportions easily? the answer is you don't.

now, unless you have some micro motors that can wiggle the ankle back and forth enough to keep the system stable, you will fall on your side as soon as you try to take the first step.

I'm not trying to discourage you, but I don't want to see you wasting time and money on a project like an android only to be stopped by a tiny little problem at the very end. If you do figure out how to balance the thing while walking or running, please, by all means let me know. I would love to build one myself, and then we can make them box...lol.

miniature walking robots are not that complicated to build if you use servos

but once you scale up you have to custom make more and more stuff , and everything becomes more expensive

its an extremely difficult project but don't give up, many of us here can help you build it

I agree. I can help you loads with the mechanics of the matter, but I can't (haven't researched much) do the balance part. If you want websites for places to buy parts, or if you want any help at all from the mechanical perspective, I'd love to be of some service.

I had the idea to do something similar to this a few weeks ago, and had the whole body planned out, down to the space in the chest being occupied by different components. I found everything I needed online, and was ready to start going on it but then I realized it would tip over. Humanistic movement requires high speed motors.

By the way, what are the dimensions you are thinking of using for this contraption? Mine was based on my own body ~6'1"- 6'2" and about 160lbs if that gives you an idea of my shape.

I'd love to see one of these made with real human movements.
