Robot Simulation in Google SketchUp
« on: November 30, 2008, 12:25:34 AM »
Apparently Google Sketchup has a physics simulator called SketchyPhysics. Anyone try it out? I saw this hacked up robot sim yesterday . . .

The sim file can be found here:

Im checking this sucker out! I havnt heard anything about that until now!

-EDIT-
Im about to install "Sketchy Physics 2 Beta". I downloaded it from here:
http://code.google.com/p/sketchyphysics2/downloads/list
Ill let you all know how it goes.
For a little more information on sketchy physics go here:
http://code.google.com/p/sketchyphysics2/

-EDIT-
I have it installed and im currently using it. So far ive manage to put a wheel on a box and when I tell the simulation to run the wheel falls off into space because theres no floor lol
More updates as they come :)

-EDIT-
It took me a long long time to figure it out (I didnt read any of the Tutorials before hand) but I finally made a ball roll down a slope and up a ramp/jump into oblivion lol
From what I can tell this stuff is pretty sweet. I have yet to make anything rotate like a motor or anything. Im still working on figuring that out. For that I may need to read at least SOME of the tutorial :P I have to go to bed now because I have work in the morning and then im busy as hell all day and up until Thursday. Sorry im not much help here

The SketchyPhysics "tutorial" consists of one sentence and two pictures :-X

I volunteer HDL_CinC_Dragon to write a tutorial for us ;D

I did however find these:

I gave it like a half hour try - and its really confusing to use

I would really appreciate a tutorial Dragon  ;)

Well I made some progress in learning it last night. I got a cylinder to spin like a motor lol but using that information I learned a very crucial part in the whole thing: Telling sketchy physics what is what :)

I would be glad to write a tutorial for it. Im going to be busy up until Friday afternoon. Right now theres nothing planned between Friday at around 3:30pm to Sunday night at about 10pm lol. Shouldnt take me too long to finish figuring everything out and write up a good tutorial for it. I should have that by Monday... unless something big comes up. Expect it on Monday :)

Ehem.
(I didnt read any of the Tutorials before hand)
Give my link a click :P

Ill download that other link you posted and give that a look see as well. Im going to be leaving shortly so I wont have time to tinker around with it now :(

Ok I lied, I took a look at it. It wasnt as long a tutorial as I was expecting. The tutorial did in fact show you how to make a pretty fun little tank. In my opinion it was a little too vague on information about how to do stuff but seeing as how the author used little text comments to teach it, its understandable. I think to follow the tutorial well enough you will need a little bit of information before hand on how to apply stuff and all that good stuff.

Oh there will be screenies. There will be. Just you wait! :)

I think im getting pretty used to this but I still havnt had a lot of time to play with it. Maybe like 3 hours spread out into .5 - 1 hour increments. I have to leave for class now. I wont be back on until tomorrow evening (hopefully around 6pm EST). Ill get some time with it then and hopefully start writing the tutorial :D

Something big did in fact arise lol. I will be travelling out of state for the weekend from Friday afternoon to sunday evening. I will bring my laptop and try to get it all done :)

Ok so It turns out I was extremely busy while I was away too and didnt get a chance to work on it at all... I hate being busy... Ill do my best to at least get a basics one up there very very soon.

Hey guys. I just want to know if there is still a demand for me to continue with the tutorial. Ive been thinking about continuing it much further but I would like to know that people actually want/need this tutorial before I do it.

yeah I played with that for about a month last year and I got it to kinda work but it doesn't do anything thats useful enough to spend the time learning how to use it. Thats my opinion though...

nah its not drag and drop at all. When youre running the simulation you are able to drag creations around but actually setting up the components and such is done just like designing any regular thing.
