Really easy basic question

Hi again, sorry for the lame posts... Just wondering what kind of wires i need when I am soldering.  I really have no clue what I am looking for.  Can I get them at a hardware store, etc?

well wires have certain thicknesses , measured in units called gauge


for most robotics applications,like the the 50 dollar robot,  ( using servos , etc.  NOT high powered motors and other high powered equipment)  use between 20-24 gauge wire .

I personally use 22 stranded gauge wire for my low power robotics applications

Try Radioshack, most hardware stores likely carry wire for housing projects (110VAC), which isn't close to 20-24 gauge wire.  Stranded is more flexible, but solid is the only way to go for breadboarding.  You can always reuse wire from old PC power supplies, etc.

I agree with the above. I went to radio shack and bought like 200' of stranded and 75' of solid for breadboarding. I haven't ran out of either and ithe stranded is perfect for sensor cables because of the flexibility

Or if you have a ethernet cable, rip it open.
